Portovenere

The Sixth Land and UNESCO Heritage

Considered the “gateway” to the Cinque Terre, Portovenere is a jewel of the Ligurian Riviera, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its ancient village, closed to traffic, winds along a promontory where tall, colorful buildings stand. Not to be missed is the scenic Church of St. Peter, built on the rocky point, and the imposing Doria Castle, now a venue for art exhibitions. The proximity to the enchanting islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto make it a paradise for nature lovers and snorkelers.

Portovenere also offers delightful beaches and bays, and is renowned for its gastronomy, with octopus dishes and Ligurian specialties such as pesto.
